DC Combat Sports Commission is the regulator of boxing, wrestling, martial arts, and mixed martial arts within the District, with board members nominated by the Mayor. This committee also protects combat sports participants and consumers by ensuring license laws are met and upheld.

the project

The Commission desired a brand refresh to have the branding more aligned with their vision of combat sports’ energetic and inclusive spirit. FORMA by MOYA fit the bill of bringing their passion for combat sports to life with an updated, contemporary brand identity.

challenge

The new, bold logo incorporated a pictogram belt with stars, an icon that is synonymous with different combat sports in the District. The logo takes the DC government’s brand colors of dark blue and red, with added light blue to accent the graphic.

Typography and the color palette were also updated for all corporate communication and marketing materials. The final result? A dynamic look and feel that speaks of movement, action, and the thrill of combat sports.

This brand redesign did not go unnoticed, as FORMA won a gold MUSE Creative Award in the corporate identity category in 2022.
